Sheath Dress with Leather Details

When Balmain hit the runway for the Fall fashion show this year, it had everyone’s attention.  Every single detail within each garment was beyond amazing. Every piece was literally wearable art.
Vogue Foundation Gala Arrivals - Paris Fashion Week : Haute-Couture Fall/Winter 2014-2015Although I am no where near as designed oriented as these high fashion designers, I was truly inspired by them.  I loved the colors and textures that each design carries.
milblogOlive being one of the hottest colors for Fall, I wanted to create a simple sheath dress while incorporating a simple detailing of leather.  I can sort of picture Kim K. wearing my dress. Can’t you? LOL! (Only in my dreams)
mil1blogAs for the dress, I used New Look’s 0167, view B. (I found it at a yard sale)  I basically made the dress exactly how the instructions stated. I looked at it and just thought it was quite boring so, I had some extra leather laying around so I decided that I wanted to incorporate it in the dress somehow. I played with a few designs, but ended up with this one.  I cut the shoulders of the dress apart and added the leather.  I understitched the neckline for the main part of the dress, but for the leather, I topstitched.
mil3blogI really loved how this dress came out. It looks a high-end, designer dress, but of course we all know that it wasn’t.  I purchased 2 yards of the fabric for $5/yd while in NY and the leather was scraps that I found laying around my house.

I’d love to hear your thoughts on the dress.  Comment below.

  1. This is too cute and very simple with a little pop. I would definitely wear my hair up to showcase that shoulder. Thanks for giving me some fall workwear inspiration!
