Pom Poms

pom1pom4pom2

How fun is this midi skirt!? I love this freakin skirt! LOL! Some say it’s a party in a skirt. ūüôā¬†You can’t really tell from the photos, but the pink pom poms on the skirt stick out and gives the skirt a fun texture.¬† People always ask me “How long did it take you to sew all of those pom poms on there?” LOL!¬† I’ll never tell! ūüėȬ† This skirt is apart of my Limited Edition Collection from my line.¬† You can find it HERE.

I decided to go unexpected and pair this skirt with a light blue button up shirt.  And I loved playing with the contrasting print of the polka look of the skirt so I paired it with my favorite striped heels.  This is such a fun party look.  I definitely had fun wearing it.  Comment below and tell me what your ideal party look would be.

Sapphire Summer

So it’s halfway through the year. Time went by so fast. My business is officially 8 months today!¬† Looking back, I’ve worked my ass off and have learned so much about this business. Although wishing I’d gone to fashion school, I feel like what I’m doing now is the path I’m supposed to be going down.¬† Everything is falling into place and God has literally sent the most amazing people in my life that I would have never seen myself even meeting.
sapphire2

For several years, I prayed that God bless me with my dream job. I prayed for this but not knowing what I wanted my dream job to be.¬† I can truly say that the empire that I am building is the dream job that God dreamt for me.¬† I really wish that I could show you all everything that has happened from April 2013 until now.¬† To think that I’ve ONLY been sewing for 2 years and now own my clothing line that is already in a couple stores within the first year of¬†my collection launching¬†blows my mind.¬† I seriously cannot fathom all of this. I really wish I could take you all down memory lane to see all of the people that I’ve met that volunteered to help me because they believed in me and my brand.¬† These people aren’t just some airheads off the street either. These are some extremely smart people who I still cannot believe they were sent my way. God truly works in mysterious ways.¬† It makes me tear up just looking back at all that has happened and the things I know the future holds.¬† The project that I am working on now behind the scenes¬†literally blows my mind. I cannot even believe that I’m even in the position to be doing it.¬† God is good. He is good to me.¬† If you want something bad enough, put in the work.¬† I hate reading, but I read about the business because I want to be successful.¬† I’m an introvert and hate being around a lot of people, but God has literally pushed me out there and I’ve have the most extraordinary people.¬† I hate public speaking, but with this business, that totally goes out the window. It’s all or nothing.¬† When you have to talk about yourself as a designer and talk about your collection, you have one shot. It’s all God though.¬† God made all of this possible. I give him all of the glory and all of the praise.

Muave Midi

Summer is here!¬† I’ve been extremely busy on my clothing line.¬† As some of you know, I started my business 6 months ago and things have been going quite well. It’s hard to be the main person in charge because everyone that works for you needs you all the time.¬† A lot of times its hard to sit down and get that moment to sew for myself or the new collection. When I don’t get the chance to sew for myself, I love to wear skirts from own line (@tjsewercollection). And this one gets a lot of use.

muaveSo you guys should already know this by now but black is my favorite color and its a must for me to wear with almost everything. So ofcourse I had to pair a basic black tee with my midi skirt.  I decided to add some pops of color with my shoes and necklace.

muave2

I love the look of midi skirts because they are so lady like and classy.  You can never go wrong with looking classy!

muave3I personally think that midi skirts flatter everyone. What are your thoughts?¬† I always hear (majority from my beautiful plus size women) that midi skirts don’t look good on them.¬† I wholeheartedly disagree. Comment below and tell me what you think.

DIY Joggers

¬†So the trend for Fall/ Winter fashion is sporty wear and you’ve probably seen it all over the runway, celebs, and your favorite bloggers. Jogger pants are a¬†part of that sporty look, but why not go outside of the box and pick a print that wouldn’t typically be used for this type of look.
jog3These pants are comfortable and depending on the print that you choose, you can easily look pulled together if you just throw on something as simple as a t-shirt like I did with my look. My shirt was a bit long, so I tied a knot in the back.  I say that this is a must have for back to school kids, whether in elementary, middle, or high school. I created this for my daughter (HERE & HERE) and for my son (HERE). This pants are also great for moms that are always on the run trying to keep up with family duties.

The fabric that I chose was a sateen with a bit of stretch. It was purchased from JoAnn Fabrics and if you are interested, I created a tutorial for these pants a couple weeks back. You can check it out here?

What are your thoughts on the sports wear trend?

DIY Origami Top + Circle Skirt

With Fall season just around the corner, I know that we are all on the hunt for that perfect fabric that will help us transition into Fall style and I finally found the perfect print that I got it from FatQuarterShop.com¬† I am totally in love for these reasons: It’s modern, it has a bit of a Summer and Fall color palette, and it’s just an all-around fun print.
gridWith this fabric, I wanted to show you¬†that you can create¬†both, an edgy and a¬†sophisticated look. They both are fun and can be pulled off at any age.¬† That’s the main reason I feel that you need this fabric¬†in your life; You can create something for anyone no matter their age and in all honesty, gender. It is a neutral print that¬†gives off a youthful look¬†to whatever¬†is created.
gridlock11With this first look, I created an origami top in which you can pair with your favorite fitted jeans.¬† Pair it with some¬†bold accessories, and you have yourself, an edgy, yet sexy look.¬† This top has no zipper and loose, boxy feel to it and because of the open back, it’s to pull on and off.¬†The peek-a-boo on the lower back¬†shows just the perfect amount of skin for Fall and it gives off¬†an unexpected touch to a basic top.¬† Cute right?! gridlock1CollageTOP: DIY// Jeans: Zara// Necklace: Charlotte Russe//

Now¬†I know that everyone loves a classic circle skirt and when paired with this years hottest trend, the midi, it’s such a great combo that needs to¬†be added to your Fall wardrobe.
grid1With this second look, I created this super cute circle skirt. It’s such a fun and classy look that any age can pull off.¬† You can instantly look pulled together with a circle skirt made with a fun, bold print, and a t-shirt or tank.¬† It’s as easy as that. Throw on some accessories and you’ve just stepped your look up to whole new level.

Origami

So back in the Spring, I made an open back top that I absolutely fell in love with.¬† I loved it so much, that I wanted to make something similar to transition into the Fall. So. I drafted a pattern out of a top that I already owned and came up with this Origami top.¬† I vlogged my entire process¬†for a video that I will later post. It’s going to be titled “Behind the Scenes of a DIY Fashion Blogger”.¬† I wanted to show you my creative process, and you’ll see me drafting patterns and coming up with ideas for my blog and YouTube, but more info will come out once the video is out which will be in a few weeks.¬† I’ve¬†been doing quite well with the¬†consistency¬†of my¬†videos.¬† I have a video set for every week as of lately, so be sure to subscribe to my channel if you haven’t yet.

origami

Enough with the side rambling.¬† So like I said, I drafted the pattern to make this top, but I will show you in how to make it with a pattern in a future tutorial which will be released in a bout 2 weeks. (Mark your calendars)¬† This is a loose fitting top.¬† I love the peek of skin on the lower back because it’s just enough.¬† If you are not a fan of showing skin at all, you can easily make this top a bit longer to where the cutout hits your bottom.
origamiThe fabric that I chose for this top is a sateen.¬† It has a small amount of stretch and it has a nice, satiny¬†finish.¬† For this top, you don’t necessarily need any stretch. You can make this top with 100% cotton if you like because of the open back, it allows for a lot of movement without the wrinkles.

Modernized

¬†Have you ever walked into a thrift store and looked at something and think “Why would anyone purchase this?” LOL! I know I have…several times!!! Well, over on Pretty Girls Sew, we wanted to challenge you to think outside of the box and refashion a thrifted find.
thriftHere is what I picked up; A kelly green, drop-waisted dress with rusty, gold buttons. Doesn’t it just look so fabulous?! LOL! Not really.¬† Taking something old and turning it into something beautiful definitely tests your creativity, your sewing skills, and problem solving skills. Imagination is key! So I had sooooo many things in mind for this but it all fell through because of the small¬†amount of fabric that I was¬†working with.¬† This is where creativity and problem solving comes in. I literally had to take apart almost the entire dress.¬† I kept a portion of the front button section as is, but everything else had to go.
thrift21
Here’s some notes on how I went about creating my finished piece.
1. I removed the sleeves, and bottom pleated skirt.
2. Using my bra as a guide, I created the top portion of the romper.
3. To create a nice and neat finish for the top, I cut out facings and neatly understitched it.
4. It took forever, but I ironed the pleats out of the skirt and turned it into shorts.
5. I really wanted pockets, but don’t have enough fabric so I made faux pockets. (LOL! Nope they aren’t real)
6. The waist was a tad large, but I didn’t want to take away any fabric because my hips are¬†wide, so I added 2 darts in the¬†back instead.
7. When hemming the shorts, I wanted the hem to be thick like most shorts are so that’s what I did.
8. I removed the old, gold buttons and added some nice rustic silver ones.
9. For the back, I created a drop back and added facing for a neat finish.
10. For the straps, I took the sleeves, and cut 1.5 inch strips. I stitched two together to make them long enough and stitched down the sides of each strap.  I made a total of four straps. I criss-crossed it across the back side of the romper attached it the front and side.

Tailored

So, as some of you may know, I graduated from college back in June so now I am currently in job hunt mode. Well, not really so much a job; I’m looking for a career that I would enjoy. This post is my ode to that career women I dream of being.
tailI’m very ambitious. I want it all! When I do start working, I’m still going to keep my blog up and running. I’ve built this thing from the ground up and don’t plan on stopping anytime soon. I really enjoy blogging and¬†I feel like I can manage it all. I’ve managed it while I was in school full time, so I hope it’s no different.
tail2
So this outfit is a bit more on the business casual side because of the bright colored shoes.¬† I love fuchsia¬†and navy blue paired together. It’s just a beautiful coupling. The neutral animal print purse adds a more classic and high-end look to the entire outfit.¬† Besides the shoes being my favorite part of the outfit, my second fav is the skirt.¬†Can you believe that it was only $10?! Yep! ¬†I love the box pleat in the front and the¬†belt that it came with is so modern and chic. The fabric is so¬†beautiful and soft and I love that it allows you to look professional yet fashionable as well. I purchased the skirt from JC Penney. I think so many people have turned away from JCP. I don’t understand why though. They have such amazing clothing at amazing prices. I remember last year buying a tuxedo blazer for only $2.¬†It was brand new with¬†absolutely¬†nothing wrong with it.¬†JCP is definitely one of my favorite stores to shop. Do you shop there?
tail3

I love that my entire outfit was on clearance. My top was only $4. A crispy white button-up is a classic and must have in everyone’s wardrobe. My purse was around $6. An animal printed bag is such a fun added touch to any outfit. This¬† is also a staple that¬†should be in a every woman’s closet. My skirt I mentioned above and lastly, I cannot forget my shoes. JustFab was having a buy 1 get 1 free deal so I jumped right on it.¬† A fun-colored shoe is a must have for those days when you want to dress up and hang out with the girls or a fun date with your guy. If you don’t have any of these classic pieces, I won’t be mad if you stop reading my blog and go get them for your closet now. It’s soooo needed, so I’ll understand.
tail1So what is your work uniform? What do you wear to work? I’d love to know. Also, I wanna to know, what is your dream job? Are you working there currently?
Thanks for stopping by! XOXO

Street Attitude

Last week I posted my daughter, Alana, wearing her leopard pants in a playful, yet chic style. If you have not seen that post, you can check it out HERE.  This week, I wanted to show you how you can these dress pants up.  When I dolled her up, she could not keep herself out of the mirror. LOL!
ljWhen converting these pants over to  a dressier style, I still kept the main part of the outfit quite simple but, I added bold accessories to play up the look.
divA5A staple in my kids wardrobes are plenty of black and white plain tee shirts; whether they are short or long sleeved. I love them because they can be dressed up or down and they pretty much go with everything.  Another cute added touch to this outfit could be a simple cardigan or faux leather jacket because it will also go well during the colder months.
